I grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota. As a child I developed asthma and after seeing limited improvement with medical approaches, I went to a chiropractor which had a positive effect on my immune system and reduced my asthma symptoms. Like many in our field, this personal experience influenced my career path. I graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1987. A few years into practice, I met someone that changed my life, Dr Ted Carrick, the godfather of neurology in the chiropractic field. I received my diplomate in 1995 and am a board-certified chiropractic neurologist in Scottsdale, Arizona.
My first experience with laser was when I injured my elbow in 2004 and purchased an Erchonia PL 5000 Laser for treatment of myself. Over the years, I’ve suffered two car accidents and well as the long-term effects of playing high school and college football. I know what it’s like to be a patient.
Henry Cejudo has been my patient since the 2008 Olympics when he won the gold medal in wrestling. He started his career in the UFC in 2012 and went on to win titles at the 125 and 135 weight classes. Only three other combat athletes hold the distinction of two different weight classes, and they are Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Conor McGregor. Henry calls himself Triple C because he has the two-title classes as well as Olympic gold.
Henry severely sprained his left ankle the Tuesday prior to his Saturday, June 8th, 2019, fight against Marlon Moraes in Chicago. I routinely travel with and treat him before his fights. I met one of his trainers at my office that Tuesday prior at midnight to send my Erchonia PL 5000 Laser the next morning to perform multiple daily sessions prior to my arrival on Friday. Cejudo has said several times on social media he likely would have bowed out of the fight if he didn’t have the laser therapy. Winning that night was worth $500,000.
I have treated Henry with Erchonia lasers for concussions, cervical whiplash, post left shoulder surgery, rib contusions and sprains in every region for the past 12 years. Over the years, I have developed a reputation for treating numerous combat athletes in the UFC and Bellator mixed martial arts with similar complaints.
Covid taught me during quarantined times, patients didn’t want to go to doctor’s offices for therapy. I decided to offer them a seven-day treatment plan of laser therapy in the safety and comfort of their own home. I’ve developed protocols for multiple applications of lasering daily and created a rental program for athletes & the public for enhanced healing of post-surgery, fractures and ligament injuries.
There are different delivery mechanisms that fall under the low-level laser umbrella, and it can be confusing. Erchonia Lasers are non-thermal laser diodes which optimize photonic energy delivery to the mitochondria of the cell. They truly work at the cellular level to dramatically manage pain and accelerate healing.
My Dad taught me to work hard. I’ve learned to work smarter. Currently, I have the Erchonia FX635, PL5000, PLTouch & XLR8. My personal favorite is the XLR8 as it allows you to save multiple frequency and time applications and a stand allows patients to treat themselves or be used as an unattended therapy in the office. Purchasing several lasers for your practice provides you the choice of use in the office or offering the rental option. Your biggest regret will be waiting and not incorporating this passive form of income into practice and benefiting the world with a non-drug approach for pain management and healing.
